Should I File a Roof Claim?

If you have home insurance and a storm, tree, or other event damages your roof, you may be able to file a claim to cover the repair costs. That’s the goal of our initial appointment – to determine if your situation warrants a roof claim. After all, sometimes a homeowner needs an emergency repair, such as tarping the roof after a tree limb damaged it, but the repair costs fall below your deductible, so filing a claim might not be in their best interest.

Our team will help guide you through these possibilities so you know exactly what to expect. The process is simple. Once we’ve scheduled an appointment, our team will arrive at the agreed-upon time, inspect the damage, and walk you through the next steps based on what we find.

If No…

If your damage isn’t claim-worthy, we’ll provide a cash quote. While it can be disappointing to have to pay out of pocket, you can rest assured that you’re in good hands. If Yes…

Then the next step is to initiate a claim. Here’s a quick overview of the claims process:

  • Step 1: Initiate the Claim with Your Carrier.
  • Step 2: Schedule an Adjuster Inspection.
  • Step 3: Receive Payout and Begin Repairs.
  • Step 4: Complete Repairs and Submit Certificate of Completion.

What to Know Before Our Appointment.

Texas has an underregulated roofing market that doesn’t require contractors to be licensed. As a result, there’s a lot of misinformation, shady practices, and even outright fraud that confuses and takes advantage of homeowners. At DFW Roofers, we do everything by the book. 

Here’s what that means for you…

1. We Work With Insurance – Not Against Them.

All insurance carriers and many roofing contractors generate estimates using Xactimate, a program that updates location-specific labor, material, and profit costs monthly.  Any difference between contractor and adjuster estimates will be due solely to one party adding or removing an item on Xactimate.

As such, we do not quote against insurance but work with them. We only provide cash quotes for non-insurance claims.

2. We Charge Deductibles – The Alternative is Fraud.

If any contractor pays for or waives your deductible through rebates or credits, they’re committing a crime. They’re also providing inadequate service, as waived deductibles are often “made up for” by overcharging insurance, cutting corners, or using low-quality products.

Policyholders must pay their deductibles, and any contractor who says otherwise suggests felony insurance fraud.

3. We Do Things Right.

Insurance carriers request Certificates of Completion that outline the scope of work and the prices paid. The contractor provides one to the homeowner, who sends it to the carrier. Hiding a deductible in this process is a felony.
